First Light Neighborhood, a short walk to Pine Hill Campus, High Mowing School, Temple Wilton Community Farm, Wild Rose Farm and Hilltop Cafe, consists of 40 acres abutting conservation land.
The Earth Does Not Belong to Human Beings; Human Beings Belong to the Earth
We need to begin by appreciating that land ownership is a convention of our times and that land belongs to the earth. If we do claim any rights to it, we need to first acknowledge that this piece of the earth is on the traditional territory of the Abenaki and Pennacook tribes.
First Light Neighborhood is a community which strives to live in balance with nature and takes its inspiration from the Living Community Challenge, a framework which creates communities that are:
Healthy for all elements of life
Nurturing and generous places that promote healthy lifestyles for everyone
Net Positive with respect to water and energy. Living Communities generate their own energy and capture and treat all the water they need.
Designed using multipurpose elements. Nothing has only a single purpose; everything has multiple benefits to the community and environment
Regenerative spaces for people and natural ecosystems
Places that are walkable and bikeable
In this spirit, all the homes in the community will have solar roofs and rainwater catchment and storage systems. Native edible and pollinator plants will be a common sight; bird boxes, farm animals and organic food gardens will be an integral part of the community.
