In the face of climate change, we must restore our relationship with nature and operate within the ecological balance of a given place.
The Neighborhood will give residents the opportunity to meet and share work and recreation with their neighbors in a way that typical rural subdivisions – houses scattered throughout the forest, with wooded buffers intended to afford the much-sought “privacy” but primarily serving to isolate households from each other – do not. This is not a co-housing community, with excessive mandatory meetings and group decisions about household life. Rather, the neighborhood and houses will be designed in a way to encourage community to develop spontaneously and naturally.
The community house, where neighbors can meet for meals, celebrations, and other gatherings, will be a focal point. It will feature a kitchen and bathroom as well as an area for coworking and rooms which can function as guest rooms. In front of the community house will be a patio with outdoor seating facing the swimming pond. A play area and community garden will also be on the shared land.
Our vision includes on-site food production, including fruit and nut orchards, permaculture vegetable and flower gardens, chickens, goats, honeybees and other livestock.
